How To Become A Homeroom Parent

Homeroom parents are chosen at the beginning of the school year - information on how to register will be sent to parents and will also be posted here.

You must be a member of the GB PTO to be a Homeroom Parent.

We will be selecting three to four homeroom parents for every class in grades Pre-K through 4, depending on interest. In classes that have more parents sign up, we will select names randomly.  While you can indicate a preference if you have multiple children, please understand that we need to place you in the class that needs you the most.  There are no guarantees, but we will try our best to accommodate all requests!

Once the sign up form is released in September, Homeroom parents will be selected and notified sometime during the first week of October. Then, a meeting will be scheduled for all homeroom parents in early October. Details of the meeting will be announced as the date approaches.

There are many responsibilities that come along with being a Homeroom Parent.  PLEASE READ the following list of responsibilities before signing up.  Also please note that these responsibilities may change as we continue to recognize the potentially changing environment that we face due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Our goal continues to be to provide safe and fun activities for the students and staff.  We will communicate if/when this changes.

  • Meet and communicate with fellow homeroom parents and teachers throughout the school year to plan any and all activities for respective class.
  • Work together as homeroom parents to divide up tasks throughout the school year so no one person is doing everything.
  • Only 3 parents are permitted to attend a party at a time. If you are a group of 4, you will need to set a party rotation.
  • Responsible for collecting money and managing funds from party donations.
  • Create covid-friendly activities that incorporate social distancing for four celebrations throughout the school year; Halloween, Winter, Valentine’s, and end of school year.
  • Purchase, organize, and distribute all materials for said classroom party activity.
  • Until further notice, food WILL NOT be permitted for the parties.
  • Attend PTO meetings. Please arrange to have AT LEAST ONE homeroom parent from each class at each meeting so as not to miss important updates and communications.

If allowed, homeroom parents will be doing the door decorations-facilitate and arrange the decorating of your classroom’s door for Teacher Appreciation Week and potentially other holidays or events. We will keep you posted on the status of this as the time approaches.
